CompTIA Server+ (SK0-004) Practice Exam

When running CAT6 cables to a new server, the first step an administrator should take is to label both ends of the cables with unique identifiers. This practice is crucial for maintaining organization and ensuring efficient management of the network infrastructure. Labeling the cables helps in quickly identifying and troubleshooting connections within the network. When changes or diagnostics are necessary, clear labels reduce the risk of confusion, mistakes, and potential downtime, which can occur if cables are improperly identified.

Labeling cables right from the start also contributes to better cable management. It sets a standard for the installation, allowing anyone who interacts with the cabling in the future to understand the setup without needing to trace cables back to their ports. This systematic approach not only improves current operations but also benefits future upgrades and maintenance.

While the other options such as installing cables into trays, verifying the bend radius, and bundling cables are important considerations in cable management and installation, they do not take precedence over the need for proper identification. Without labeling, even well-organized installations can lead to confusion later on, making effective communication about network changes more challenging.
